Date Night at MT’s Chophouse

by Steven on September 10, 2011

Last night we went to MT’s Chophouse (off of 39th Avenue by I-75) for the first time. We had a $100 giftcard to spend from one of the promotions a few months back that allowed us to buy a $100 giftcard for $50.

We arrived around 7:15pm on a Friday night and there was no wait to seat our party of two. The service was prompt and attentive. We tried out one of the Friday night $5 appetizer specials, gator tail, and a large quantity was deliciously fried up and served with a dipping sauce. After we nibbled on the sourdough bread for a while, our entrees arrived.

My “petite prime filet mignon” (80z.) was priced at $39 including two sides, and I chose green beans and grilled onions to go with my rare beef. My wife’s “braised beef short ribs” with four cheese scalloped potato and spinach came out to $32. My steak was cooked perfectly rare and seasoned nicely with what I think was only salt and black pepper. It was very tender and right up there on the same level as the prime filet I had at Bern’s Steakhouse in Tampa a few months ago. The side’s were admittedly small portions and nothing to write home about, although I did clear my plate. The short ribs were cooked very well and had a great flavor.

After tax and tip, the bill came out to just under $100, which really cost us just under $50 due to the discounted giftcard we had. Was the meal worth $100? Probably not. Was it worth $50? Definitely, and we will be back when we have another good discount to use at the restaurant. The front desk staff handed me a $20 off two entree coupon on the way out – so that may be our ticket to visit again.
